Everyone loves Jim and Pam. They rooted for them to get together from season to Office season, and were delighted when they reunited. This whole season has been like couple porn. So one of the tougher roles in television had to be that of Pam’s romantic rival. The fact that we didn’t hate Rashida Jones’ Karen by default is testament to how likeable — and, yes, adorable — she is. If you doubt, I need only direct you to the heated debate between Lindsay Robertson and Claire Zulkey about “Team Karen” vs. “Team Pam.” It was so intense they made t-shirts. I couldn’t decide so I bought both of them.
She’s also pretty damn funny, as was evident in the recent I Love You, Man and NBC’s Parks & Recreation. She’s understatement over slapstick, but you need that just as much in comedy. She’s terrific in an ensemble. I particularly loved her in the finale, where she lost it on both Mark and Andy. More smackdowns, please. Or, barring that - puppies!
